Greetings my dear friends and supporters where every you are, it’s been a while. Welcome to my first video diary in a while. I wanted to let you know that from now on, I’ll be updating you about my programs or events with weekly blogs on my website and or Vlogs on my Youtube channel inshaAllah.A few months ago, I had the opportunity to record a campaign song called ‘Dangers Crossings’ in Cairo for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR.) This song which was recorded with international artists derived from my original song ‘Tahriib‘ which I recorded earlier last year and was written by Poet Aadan Muuse Haybe. Because of ‘Tahriib‘, I was given the opportunity as a Goodwill Ambassador to join ‘Telling The Real Story.’ This is a UNHCR campaign about the extraordinary journeys made by Eritrean and Somali refugees and asylum-seekers to Europe.

I wanted to highlight the dangers of illegal secondary movements and human trafficking to those at risk. I had the opportunity to speak to mainly Somali youth in three UNHCR refugee camps near JijigaShedherAwbare and Kebribeyah. In those three camps, I met many talented Somali youth and artists who wanted to share their work with the outside world. They have written songs, poems, and plays. Their work is often based on real life experiences and the effects of illegal secondary migration and human trafficking.

With the support of ‘Telling The Real Story, and UNHCR I’m going back to Ethiopia to work with those youths, to help produce their work and hopefully share it with you in the near future. Meanwhile, I’m on my way to Oslo to take part a festival about Somali history, art, and music. I hope you will be able to join me and my band this Friday, 5th May 2017.
