A few years ago couple of my friends had a short stay in Dubai, on their way back to Somalia for the first time since the civil war of 1991. While lounging in one of Dubai’s luxurious hotels they listened to a middle aged man on a piano who played and sang like Stevie Wonder. SOMALIA FROM NATION OF POETS TO NATION OF PIRATES
After seeing a press release for one of my songs an international news agency contacted me. They asked me if I would like to go on their program and air my views on recent events regarding Somali sea pirates. I am not an expert on this issue so I refused. Instead I decided to write this blog to discuss about another form of piracy that as a Somali artist affects my work and me. That is the pirating of Somali intellectual property.
